After three years of struggling to find playing time in the NFL, Mike Gillislee became that guy for the Bills in 2016. By that guy, I mean the guy all LeSean McCoy fantasy owners hated with a burning passion. As Buffalo’s go to guy inside the 10 yard line, Gillislee ran 101 times last year for 577 yards, and 8 touchdowns. He was one the league’s most effective runners, averaging 5.7 yards per carry on the year.
Now with the Patriots, Gillislee is expected to fill the vacancy left by LeGarrette Blount, who ran for a league leading 18 scores in 2016. As is usual with the Pats, Gillislee’s spot as the top back isn’t guaranteed, and everyone knows Belichick likes to use a full arsenal of RBs depending on the game and the situation.
Assuming Gillislee ends up being the guy in New England, he’ll have his opportunities to put up some numbers. The team has said they’re looking for a guy who can be effective in both the run game and the pass game, and Gillislee just might fit the bill. Expect 300 carries, around 1,000 yards, and 10 touchdowns for him in 2017.
