The Best #39 in the NFL: Tashaun Gipson

Tashaun Gipson | Jacksonville Jaguars | Free Safety

Gipson played four years in CLE before coming to JAX

Height: 5’11″ | Weight: 212

Date of Birth: 8/7/1990 (26)

Hometown: San Bernardino, California

College: Wyoming

Draft: 2012, Undrafted

Contract: 5 years, $35.5 million, through 2020

Tashaun Gipson’s first year in Jacksonville left something to be desired. The big signing of the 2016 offseason was a consistent player in the defensive backfield, but didn’t make much of an impact overall. Gipson’s 41 tackles and 1 interception were the lowest numbers of his career since his rookie year when he only played in 10 games.

This didn’t sit well with Gipson, who has promised to return to his Pro Bowl form in 2017. It honestly is a great situation for Gipson this season. The additions of cornerback A.J. Bouye and strong safety Barry Church make the Jags’ defensive backfield among the best in the NFL; and the versatility of Church should allow for Gipson to play a wider variety of roles than he did in 2016.

Gipson should return to form this season as a member of a strong Jacksonville defense. Expect a bounce back season with 70 tackles and 4 interceptions from the six year pro.
