Morgan Burnett has been one of few mainstays on the Packers’ defense since 2011. His consistent play at strong safety and ability to come down and stop the run have made Burnett a valuable player for Green Bay in an era where we have seen their defense rotate players in and out like they’re Browns’ quarterbacks.
Burnett’s best season came in 2014, when he totaled a career high 130 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble, and 1 interception in 15 games. He hasn’t managed to hit 100 tackles again in the past two years, and his inability to play a full season (hasn’t played a full 16 games since 2012) is opening the door for younger players to step in.
All that said, Burnett is a very talented, versatile defender, and as long as he is healthy he will continue to be a pain in the neck for opposing teams. Expect him to flirt with 100 tackles again this season, and have around 10 passes defended and 1 or 2 picks.
