Alex Mack played a major role in boosting the Falcons to a championship caliber team in 2016. The veteran center was signed prior to last year, after spending seven years suffering in Cleveland. Center was the biggest need for Atlanta’s offense, and Mack more than filled that need.
Mack was rated among the elite centers in the league last season, and was the best run blocking center in the NFL. Thanks in large part to the holes opened up by Mack and the rest of the Atlanta big men, Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman ran amok against opposing defenses all year, with 1,599 yards and 19 touchdowns on the ground.
Behind one of the better lines in the league, the Falcons’ offense should continue to thrive despite the departure of OC Kyle Shanahan. Mack and LG Andy Levitre will pave the way for one of the NFL’s elite rushing duos, who should be just as good as they have been since 2015.
