The Best #56 in the NFL: Cliff Avril

Cliff Avril | Seattle Seahawks | Defensive End

Avril joined Seattle in ’13 after being drafted by Detroit in ’08.

Height: 6’3″ | Weight: 260

Draft: 2008, Round 3, Pick 92

Contract: 5 years, $35.5 million, through 2018

Cliff Avril is one of the more underappreciated players in the league. Since 2010, Avril has been one of the league’s better sack artists, utilizing his blistering speed and patented stiff arm to make right tackles look silly. After spending his first five seasons on a struggling Lions team, Avril signed with the Seahawks in 2013, and has been a core member of that elite defense since.

His 11 sack, 6 forced fumble season for Detroit in 2011 was worthy of a trip to the Pro Bowl, but Avril would have to wait until 2016 to be named an all-star. Last year, Avril was named the October player of the month and totaled 11.5 sacks and 5 forced fumbles on the year.

Entering his 10th season, Avril has 73 career sacks and 29 forced fumbles since 2008. In 2017, he should continue to be a sack machine on the right side; 10 sacks and 5 forced fumbles seems likely, but the talent is there for an even better year.
