The Best #57 in the NFL: C.J. Mosley

C.J. Mosley | Baltimore Ravens | Inside Linebacker

The Ravens picked up Mosley’s fifth year option in the offseason.

Height: 6’2″ | Weight: 241

Date of Birth: 6/19/1992 (25)

Hometown: Mobile, Alabama

College: Alabama

Draft: 2014, Round 1, Pick 17

Contract: 4 years, $8.878 million, through 2018 (club option)

The Ravens drafted C.J. Mosley in the 2014 draft hoping to find a player who could fill the shoes of legendary linebacker Ray Lewis. While it would be irresponsible and ridiculous to even try to compare Mosley to Lewis, it seems Baltimore has found his successor.

Mosley started 16 games as a rookie in 2014, and led the team in total tackles with 133. He also picked off two passes, record three sacks, and finished second in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting to Aaron Donald.

Heading into year four of his career, Mosley has led the Ravens in tackles twice, totaling 342 over three years. He’s gotten to the quarterback 7 times, forced 3 fumbles, and intercepted 6 passes – including four in 2016.

While Mosley has established himself as the man in the Ravens’ defense, his tackle numbers have gone done each year, dropping to 92 in 2016. He has a great ability to defend the pass, but with most of the talent around him either ageing or going down to injury, he will need to get more involved for the Baltimore defense to be what it needs to be to carry Joe Flacco’s offense to a decent season.
