The Best #88 in the NFL: Greg Olsen

Greg Olsen | Carolina Panthers | Tight End

Olsen spent 4 years as a Bear, before signing with Carolina in 2011.

Height: 6’5″ | Weight: 255

Date of Birth: 3/11/1985 (32)

Hometown: Paterson, New Jersey

College: Miami

Draft: 2007, Round 1, Pick 31

Contract: 4 years, $27.75 million, through 2018

Since 2014, Greg Olsen has been the premier tight end in the National Football League. One of only two tight ends (Jason Witten) to start all 48 games in the past three seasons, Olsen leads the position with 376 targets, 241 receptions, and 3,185 yards during that time. He has been the centerpiece of the Panthers’ passing offense, and remains elite heading into his 11th season.

Underutilized by the Bears for his first four seasons, Olsen never had more than 612 yards in a season in Chicago. He found new life in Carolina, and became a favorite of a young Cam Newton. Olsen hasn’t missed a start in five seasons, and has put up three straight 1,000 yard years, earning him three consecutive trips to the Pro Bowl.

In 2017, look for more of the same for Olsen. His numbers were slightly down from 2015, but much of that can be blamed on the teams’ general inability to pass the ball inside the 20. Olsen should hit 1,000 yards again, and expect more than 3 touchdowns from him this season.
