There hasn’t been a Bills defense in the last decade that wasn’t centered around Kyle Williams. The big man out of Louisiana State was taken in the 5th round of the 2006 draft and made an immediate impact in his rookie season, starting 11 games and recording 53 tackles. Williams became the full-time starter in 2007, and has held the job ever since. His best season came in 2013, as the arrival of head coach Doug Marrone’s 4-3 defense worked wonders for the Buffalo pass rush. Williams recorded 10.5 sacks and 68 tackles in 16 games, though the Bills finished 6-10.
There were questions if Williams would return to Buffalo this year, with the arrival of new head coach Sean McDermott, but at this time it seems he is a lock to return in 2017. Williams will be 34 in six days, and some wonder if this, the final year of his contract, will be his final season. Whether he decides to continue his career or not, he will remain a top tier run stopper who is also proficient in passing situations. Look for the Bills interior to be strong in 2017, with Williams alongside a healthy Marcell Dareus.
